Ideas for Staying Engaged in the Mentoring Process

There are so many ways to keep in touch these days, and many ways to stay engaged in the mentoring process. Here are a few ideas:
  • Go through the Encouraging Mentor conversation guides together.
  • Consider a set meeting or check-in time.
  • Utilize different forms of communication such as face-to-face, Zoom, phone, text and email.
  • Establish what type of communication is best for both Mentor and Mentee.
  • Invite your Mentee for a tour of your county office.
  • Meet an Extension Specialist together.
  • Allow your Mentee to job shadow for a day.
  • Do a Farm or Site visit together.
  • Invite your Mentor to observe one of your activities or programs.
  • Plan an office day to go over ERS questions, Extension procedures, or other desk-based tasks.
  • Along those lines... meet at the end of a month and enter your data into ERS together, mentioning specifics for your program area. (We find that coffee, ice cream, or other treats make reporting a bit more pleasant!)
  • Carpool to meetings, events and programs.
  • Plan to sit together at a meeting, event or program.
  • Meet for informal conversations over lunch or a morning coffee.
